Moments that occurred when I didn't forget my camera.
Some of my favorite moments capturing fascinating wildlife and breathtaking landscapes.
Epic Bison Battle
This is a literal clash of the Titans. I was in the right place at the right time, and captured these behemoths rolling down the side of this steep hill and crashing onto the road to continue their battle there. Out of all my experiences in Yellowstone, this occasion only misses out on the top spot because I asked Megan to marry me a few days later. A lot of people use the word “epic” lightly. This is not one of those cases.
This photo was taken right outside of Boulder, Colorado at the base of the Flatirons. We’d done a hike up to Royal Arch (highly recommended), and were heading back to the car, when I noticed this fox zig-zagging down a trail looking for food. I had very little light, so rather than trying to get a super crisp photo, I elected to try to capture the motion of the fox, and I think it worked out marvelously!
This hummingbird zoomed around my head for quite a while before I was able to catch him sitting on a branch in the sunlight. The colors of his tiny feathers were simply magnificent the way they caught the light. I was pretty lucky to have him pose with such a nice soft background.

Bull Elk Silhouette
This was a shot that I had to work for a little bit. This elk was working his way over a ridge after being routed by another larger bull. I knew the silhouette would be great if I could get into position, so after a quick jog up a little hill, I was able to capture him right before he went over the top. A little Lightroom work, and voila - silhouette.
Through the Mist
We were fortunate enough to get very close to a few antelope bucks and this guy in particular was feeling extra photogenic. I think my favorite thing about antelope is the nickname they are sometimes referred to: Speedgoats.
